Licata Isolante Top Coat Primer is specifically designed to be used with our silicone renders. Here are the key reasons for using the Top Coat Primer: it enhances adhesion between the render and the basecoat, reduces the basecoat's absorption to ensure proper curing of the render, and it can be tinted to match the render colour, preventing basecoat show-through.
The Licata Isolante Top Coat Primer is formulated with potassium water glass and silicon resin water dispersion. It reinforces the substrate and controls its absorption without sacrificing breathability. It is essential to use the primer during summer for extended working time on the render, but it is beneficial year-round for improving adhesion between the basecoat and silicone render.
Apply the Licata Isolante Top Coat Primer on top of the basecoat reinforcement layer (such as Licata Raso W160 Basecoat or Licata Raso Top 800 Basecoat or LBS 100 Basecoat). Ensure the primer is dry before applying any Silicone renders (e.g., Licata Silicone Render or LBS Silicone Render).
Application of Licata Isolante Top Coat Primer
Substrate Preparation:
- Ensure substrates have adequate load-bearing capacity, are compact, stable, even, and free of dust, grease, anti-adhesive agents, remaining paint, mould, algae, moss, scratches, and salt efflorescence. Substrates should be uniformly dry.
- Clean grease, oil, and anti-adhesive agents with water and detergent, and remove organic growth with a wire brush.
- Repair scratched and cracked surfaces with levelling mortar. Ensure any applied mortar is dry and well-bonded.
Product Preparation:
- Mix the Top Coat Primer thoroughly before use. Do not thin with water or other materials.
Application:
- Apply the Top Coat Primer evenly using a roller. Allow it to dry before applying the silicone render.
- Do not work at temperatures below 5°C, during rain or snow, or in strong winds or direct sunlight without special protective measures. Protect recently rendered walls from harsh weather conditions.
Application conditions:
- Temperature (air, substrate, materials): +5°C to +25°C
- Coat drying time: approx. 4 hours
- Time before rendering: approx. 24 hours after priming
- Colour: white (can be tinted to match render colour)
Storage:
- Shelf life: up to 12 months from the manufacture date. Keep dry and in original containers at temperatures between 5°C and 25°C.
Coverage Rates:
- Approx. 0.2-0.3 kg/m² depending on substrate structure and absorbency.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Top Coat Primer used for?
- It is used with our silicone renders to aid adhesion between the render and basecoat, limit basecoat absorption, and ensure proper curing of the render.
What colours can I tint my Top Coat Primer to?
- The standard color is white, but it can be tinted to match the render color to prevent basecoat bleed-through.
How do I apply Top Coat Primer?
- Use a large paintbrush or roller to apply it evenly to the substrate. Allow it to dry fully before applying the silicone render.
How long does it take for Top Coat Primer to dry?
- It takes approximately 4 hours to dry. Ensure it is completely dry before applying the silicone render.
Can I use Top Coat Primer all year round?
- Yes, it is particularly important during hot periods to ensure proper curing and extended working time. It is also effective in cooler periods for enhancing adhesion between the basecoat and render.
