Description

Lime Basecoat NHL 5 (Licata Raso Top Bio) - 25kg

Lime Basecoat NHL 5 (Licata Raso Top Bio) is a pre-mixed powdered bonding mortar that uses natural hydraulic lime (NHL5) as a binder, along with fine natural pozzolans and selected additives. These components extend the working time and enhance adherence to the substrate. This basecoat is ideal for reinforcement and regularisation and is particularly recommended for adhering insulation boards in EWI systems.

The combination of natural hydraulic lime and natural pozzolan provides the mortar with excellent durability and high chemical resistance to acid rain and salts.

The Lime Basecoat has a micro-porous structure that allows moisture to pass through and convert into water vapor. Its high permeability ensures that water vapor evaporates quickly, making the building breathable. This reduces the wall's thermal conductivity, leading to significant energy savings for heating and cooling compared to conventional cement. It also helps create a comfortable indoor climate, improving the quality of life.

Main field of application

It is particularly suitable for:

  • Gluing and applying a thin coat to breathable panels made of rock wool, cork, and wood fiber.
  • Applying a thin coat to masonry that requires high breathability.

Recommended applications:

  • Adhering to common types of insulating panels, including EPS and XPS.
  • Applying a thin coat to any lime or cement-based surface.

Suitable substrates (indoors or outdoors):

  • Lime-based plasters
  • Lime/cement-based plasters
  • Clay brick
  • Precast or cast-in-place concrete
  • Autoclaved aerated concrete
  • Old paint and coatings, provided they are clean, thick, and well anchored to the substrate

Preparation of substrate

The substrate must be solid, dry, and clean, free from any loose or poorly adhering materials, previous grout applications, water repellents, mold release agents, waxes, rust, oils, fats, dust, efflorescence, vegetation, microorganisms (such as mold or mildew), pollution residues, and any other elements that could hinder the product's adhesion.

It is crucial to moisten the substrate with water beforehand, ensuring it is damp but not saturated, to promote good adhesion and proper curing. This step helps prevent dehydration and subsequent cracking.

Product preparation

Mix with water only, using 4.5-5 liters per bag of product.

Pour the water into a bucket and gradually add the Lime Adhesive. Mix for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture reaches a smooth, lump-free consistency. Adding too much water can weaken the mortar and cause it to crack.

Product application

It is recommended to apply the mortar to a thickness of 4 to 10 mm. For thicknesses greater than 10 mm, apply in two or more layers, preferably before the previous layer has hardened.

Adhesion of insulation boards:

  1. Apply a perimeter bead of mortar 6 to 10 cm wide and 2.5 to 5 cm thick on the board.
  2. Fill the inside of this bead with 2 or more dabs of mortar, 8 to 10 cm in size, depending on the size of the board. The mortar should cover at least 40% of the panel surface.

For substrates with very good planarity, it is possible to apply the mortar to both the support and the insulating panels (double gluing), using a 10mm x 10mm notched trowel.

Regularisation on insulating panels with mesh:

  1. Wait at least 24 hours after adhering the panels.
  2. Apply a combed coat of mortar using a 6-8 mm notched trowel.
  3. Lay the mesh on top of the combed layer.
  4. Fill in the mesh until the "groove and valley" are levelled out, but do not flatten it.
  5. Apply a final coat of regularising mortar.

The mesh must meet the following specifications: 100% fibreglass, minimum mesh opening of 5x4mm, weight of 160 g/m², and chemical resistance to alkalis.

Failure to follow these application instructions may negatively affect the finish and durability of the final result.

Storage

This product is available as a powder in a 25kg paper bag.

Store it in a cool, dry place and prevent any water from getting in. The shelf life is up to 12 months from the date of manufacture.
